Modernizing ICT Education for Harvesting Innovation; Capacity Building in Higher Education project 618768/2020

2023-11-23

ICT is a high-growth sector that is expected to drive economic growth in the near future. The sector’s development is fueled by high demand for digital services due to the rapid evolution of computer networks.

ICT education needs to evolve at a pace that follows technological innovation in order to meet societal and industry needs. Given the rapid growth of technology, which results in the fast obsolescence of services and products, the most crucial skill that educational institutions can build among young students is their innovation capacity as well as critical and analytical thinking that will help them stay at the edge of their field throughout their career.

ICT-INOV aims to enrich the potential of ICT higher education in Asia and Europe to harvest the innovation potential of students empowering them to bring ideas into action. ICT-INOV deploys gamified design thinking approaches for building a highly skilled ICT workforce with specialized knowledge that can support the high demand for digital services towards enriching the quality of life. ICT-INOV develops a holistic learning intervention that builds physical and digital infrastructures, innovative digital content, and instructor capacity to deploy emerging digitally-enabled learning design.

The Capacity Building in Higher Education Erasmus+ program funds the project and is implemented in Greece, Malaysia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Nepal, Portugal, Italy, and Estonia.

ICT-INOV has been piloted at Tribhuvan University in various M.Sc. and Bachelors level courses. Students use the ICT-INOV digital learning platform to share ideas and collaborate towards building software solutions based on theoretical concepts related to each course.

The 3rd Consortium Meeting of “ICT-INOV: Modernizing ICT Education for Harvesting Innovation” took place in Kathmandu from 2nd to 4th November 2022. This meeting was jointly organized by the Institute of Engineering/Tribhuvan University and the School of Engineering/Kathmandu University, the consortium partners in Nepal. The consortium is led by the University of Thessaly, Greece and there are twelve partnering universities from Europe and Asia; namely Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal), Tallinn University (Estonia), European Training and Research Association for Cooperation Key to Business (EU-TRACK), University of Malaya (Malaysia), University Tenaga National (Malaysia), Isra Islamic Foundation (Guarantee) Limited (Pakistan), National University of Computer and Emerging Science (Pakistan), John Von Neumann Institute (Vietnam), Hanoi University, Tribhuvan University, and Kathmandu University. The meeting was a great opportunity for partners to work together face to face and to advance project activities on learning activity design, instructor training, piloting in courses, dissemination, and community building. The project is co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
